Passports
Valid passports and visas are required to enter Mongolia. However you can travel freely from province to province.

Customs

Strict laws prohibit and restrict import of fire arms and weapons.

Animals and some foodstuffs will be quarantined.

Anti-drug laws are strictly enforced.

You may bring in 1000 ml of alcoholic liquor (per traveller over the age of 18) duty/tax free as long as they accompany you through customs and are not intended for commercial purposes. 250 grams of tobacco products can be brought in and the same rules apply.

Currency

Togrog (or Tugrik) is the Mongolian national currency. Notes come in 10000, 5000, 1000, 500 and 100 Togrogs. Coins are 100, 50 and 20 Togrogs. There are 100 Mongos in one Togrog.

Health

Major health risk in Gobi Desert region is sunburn, sunstroke and hot winds. Protect yourself from the sun and winds and drink plenty!!

Electricity

Electrical current in Mongolia is 220 volts and power points take Europlugs (two plugs). Mongolian power plugs and power points are unlike those in the USA or Japan.
