Itinerary (VMI-WT-3)

Destinations: UB-Middle Gobi-Gobi Desert-Karakorum- Tuvkhun Monastery- Tsenkher hot spa-Khorgo N/P-Khuvsgul lake-Amarbayasgalant Monastery-UB

Tour itinerary

Day 1. Ulaanbaatar
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, transfer to the hotel. City tour including Sukhbaatar square a central point of Ulaanbaatar, Zaisan hill with panoramic view of whole city and Gandan monastery, the largest monastery in the country. After lunch at the restaurant in UB will be excursion to the Natural history museum where the biggest dinosaur skeletons in the world and the fossilized skeletons of dinosaurs found in Gobi Desert are kept intact. Welcome dinner in one of the finest restaurants in UB. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2. Baga Gazriin Chuluu (Earth stone)
Drive to Middle Gobi Province. On the way, visit Baga Gazriin Chuluu where we will visit a spring with water that is supposed to be good for the eyes. Then visit ruins of a temple from the 18th century and a crystal-lined cave. Dinner and overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 3. Oasis in the Gobi
Visit to Sum Huh Burd oasis in the Gobi with a small lake, which has an ancient stone fortress on an island in the center of the lake. The fortress, built in 16th century, has walls 1.5 meters thick and no roof. Legend says that all attempts to build a roof were thwarted by lightning. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 4. Gobi Desert
Drive to Gobi Desert. On the way visit to camel breeder family and experience the nomadic lifestyle. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 5. Visit Eagle Valley
Visit Yoliin Am (Eagle Valley)  in National Park of Three Beauty Mountain for day trek and an opportunity to photograph the stunning landscape of Altai Mountain chain, Gobi Glacier and intriguing wildlife. Visit Gobi museum. Leisure hiking. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 6. Khongor Sand Dune
 Drive to Khongor Sand Dune. These are Mongolia 's largest sand dunes, reaching a heights of approximately 800 meters and known locally as the “Singing Dunes”. Camel riding to the Khongor Sand Dunes. The two-humped Bactrian camels are very comfortable to ride as they walk slowly and gently. Overnight in ger at tourist camp. 

Day 7. Explore Dinosaur Country
Drive to Middle Gobi. On the way visit to Bayanzag commonly known as Flaming cliffs named by Roy Chapman Andrew, an American explorer, who visited Mongolia in 1920s and discovered a complete nest of dinosaur eggs at the location turning it. The striking Bayanzag cliffs have dinosaur fossils, eggs and bones all over the place and neighbored by Saxual tree forests. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 8. Ancient capital city Karakorum
Drive to Karakorum, ancient capital city of Great Mongolian Empire. Lunch at the tourist camp. Look around little town Karakorum and see historical towel on the hill.  Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 9. Erdene Zuu monastery
Visit to Erdene Zuu monastery of 16th century, built on the site of the legendary capital city, using their bricks and stones from the ruins of Karakorum.  After lunch drive to Khangai part. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 10. Tuvkhun Monastery
Drive to the outstanding Tuvkhun Monastery, located at the peak of a remote, wooded mountain. After Lunch at the camp a short hike up the mountain about 2 km to the Tuvkhun monastery with an exquisitely peaceful view over the surrounding larch forest from an altitude of more the 2000 metres. Visit beauty scene and interesting cave around monastery.  Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 11. Tsenkher Hot Spa
Drive to Tsenkher soum, Arkhangai province. We will relax at the Tsenkher Hot Springs, where the water flows out of the ground at a sizzling 89 degrees Celsius.  After Lunch visit to Yak breeder’s family and experience the traditional customs and lifestyle of local residents. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 12. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake
Drive to extinct volcano Khorgo National park. Lunch as picnic. On the way visit to picturesque River Chuluut /Canyon/ and Taikhar Rock, a peculiar boulder is 16 meter high. We arrive in Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, 20 km long and was formed when volcanic lava dammed the Suman River. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 13. Khorgo National Park
Full day trekking around Khorgo Volcano and Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake. Walk to volcano crater of 200 m wide and 100 m deep. Khorgo is a dormant volcanic mountain and is located on the east shore of Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 14. Murun city, Khuvsgul province 
After breakfast early morning drive to Murun. On the way lunch by Jargal. Late afternoon arrival in Murun city. Overnight in local hotel.

Day 15-17. Explore Khuvsgul Lake
Drive to Khuvsgul lake 130km away from Murun. Explore the breathtaking alpine scenery of this beauty lake.  Full day to hiking and photo session along the shores of the lakes, called as Blue Pearl of Mongolia, home to diverse wildlife and countless birds.
Today you will experience the lifestyle of reindeer breeder’s family and the shaman religion. Horse riding along the lake. Drive to Murun.
Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 18. Uran Togoo volcanic
Drive to Uran Togoo volcanic. Hiking and trekking nearby beauty volcanic mountain Uran Togoo. Overnight in tent.

Day 19-20. Amarbayasgalant monastery
Drive to Amarbayasgalant monastery, built in 1736 by the order of the King of Qin Dynasty, also known as the Manchu period.
Visit to Amarbayasgalant monastery, the biggest Buddhist center in Northern Mongolia. Overnight in ger at tourist camp.

Day 21. Ulaanbaatar
Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Evening art performance/folklore. Overnight in hotel.

Day 22. Departure
After breakfast transfer to departure.
